The Bobby Socks Trees of Yellowstone

February 2, 2015 by Don

The Bobby Socks trees are dead Lodge Pole Pines near hydro-thermal areas and look as if they are wearing “bobby socks”. The dead trees soak up the mineral laden water and when the water evaporates, the minerals are left behind, turning the lower portion of trees white.
